I would like to change my subject to give a “special” present to one of our heartfelt and beloved friends, Haraprasan Nayak who uploaded an Indian cousin of this beauty yesterday!. This image was taken after the sunset using the "Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Ring-flash". Catherine also attached a WS of the same beauty taken before sunset. Thanks a lot MF! Great company on nature photography:) hehe..

TFL and Have a nice day/week!
Cheers,

*****************************

A very small butterfly with a wingspan of 17-23 mm.

The upperside ground colour in the male is mauve with a black margin. There are black marks in the discal area and a short black tail near the anal angle of the hindwing. The underside ground colour is white with a black margin, a black line in the postdiscal area and scattered black markings in the basal area. The submarginal area has a series of black marks on the forewing and a series of black spots on the hindwing that are highlighted with silver scales.
The upperside ground colour in the female is light brown. On the hindwing there is a series of continuous black marks along the outer margin. The underside is similar to that of the male.

Its range includes the eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East including Cyprus, central-western Asia, northwest Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

The adult butterflies are on the wing from April until November in successive, overlapping broods. Overwinters as a pupa. The larval host-plant is Zizyphus lotus, a thorn-laden shrub that is common in many lowland areas. Recorded from phrygana, maquis, forest edges and farmland (where Zizyphus lotus grows on the boundaries of fields), from sea level to 500 m. It is completely absent from the other elevations and mountain areas where the host-plant is also absent. Flies close to the ground, perches on dried vegetation or stones and feeds at small flowers around its host-plant, from which it seldom wanders. The adults even seem to prefer the flowers of this plant as a nectar source.

Hi Bayram
What a great little butterfly today!
Look fantastic with this black BG.
Colors and details are amazing!
This is a perfect shot MF!
Congratulation!
Horia

Selam My Dear Friend,

Thank you very much for this beautiful dedication.

What a surprise this looks much similar to the common pierrot butterfly. I hope the other variants of this sp. also exists in Cyprus (such as Angled, Rounded, Elbowed etc.). Very well composed with a nice dark BG. Superb sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing. Have a nice week ahead my friend.

Bonjour mon ami Bayram,

Hi my friend Bayram

Friendships and good evening to you.

Unusual, stylish eye catching capture of this wonderful butterfly with truly artistic composition and smart background which compliment the monochrome colors of the creature perfectly well, Bayram! Technically superb approach as well! Bravo, bravo indeed!

Hello Bayram,
you show a clear and sharp picture of the small butterfly.
I like the magnified Lycaenidae because
you can see then the nice details of their wing patterns, wing margins, legs and antennae - all very
delicate and beautiful. In my opinion the background is too dark as some details get lost.
For example, the antennae and also the hindwing tails are 'interrupted'.
Nevertheless, I like the picture.
Best wishes, Peter

Merhaba Bayram Dostum,
This is a superb macro of this Lycaenid from your home country!
The sharpness, colours and composition are perfect. My only criticism is that though the use of flash helps with the sharpness and colours, the resulting very dark BG causes a night-time effect, which is a pity when this is a diurnal species.
But this is just my opinion!
Thanks MF and have a good week,
Ivan

İyi akşamlar sevgili arkadaşım,
I remember this beauty and the nice sunset on this beautiful place! Fantastic capture with great sharpness and colours. You will find as workshop the same beauty taken just before sunset. İyi geceler,
Cathy

Merhaba Bayram
A truly dramatic entrance of this beautiful butterfly! Who dares saying butterflies are boring?!?

I do like the dark background very much - like in a theater the great diva alone on the stage - with all the spotlight on her - before delivering the great aria...

Your perfect photographic technique achieved perfection, and it is an absolute privilege to view your work.

Thank you so much for bringing this image to TrekNature!
İyi geceler
İyi bir hafta dilerim
Ingrid

Hi Bayram,
here we did the same thing: using the flash for a small butterfly. In your case as in mine the effect is to give the impression of night. But the colors come out so well and in your case the glittering of just a few scales, a wonderful effect. You present an interesting species. Thanks once more for your as ever careful description and bibliography of what you present.

I don't call you by your title "Prof" although you are one and even have your students look over your shoulders :-) Titles sound strange on friendly TN.

Have a good day. My best egards from rainy Switzerland
Dietrich

Hello little bro Bayram,

Merhaba Bayram hocam,

Küçük güzelliğe ait çok büyük, harika bir makro olmuş.
Arka siyah zemin sayesinde, kanat sonundaki göz alıcı parlaklık daha bir belirgin olmuş.
Çok net ve seyir zevki veren bir çalışma.

Hello Bayram,
For this so pleasant butterfly-shot you have earned a lot of compliments and I will add mine too. It's a fabulous shot of a striking looking Lycaenidae, amazing especially to see these blueish scales on the edge of the wings shine in such a beautiful way. I also like the contrast with the dark background. Chapeau!!
Kind regards

Hello my friend Bayram. This little black and white butterfly sure looks like the cousin here - The Common Pierrot.
The upside down perch is beautiful against the muted background. Details are fabulous as always and the composition is the work of a craftsman.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day - Jusni
