A few days ago I posted a photo of Bee-eaters which I took from a distance of 6 meters.
Today I am posting a photo taken from 40 meters. Two Bee-eaters on a dead branch of Tamarisk at the edge of Akrotiri salt lake very early in the morning.
My best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Christodoulos

Merops apiaster Linnaeus 1758
European Bee-eater,
Merops apiaster, (family Meropidae) is a colourful bird with a length of 2729 cm including the two elongated central tail feathers.
It breeds in southern Europe and in parts of north Africa and western Asia. It is a migratory bird, wintering in tropical Africa, India and Sri Lanka.
As the name suggests, bee-eaters predominantly eat insects, especially bees, wasps and hornets which are caught in the air by sorties from an open perch.
Merops apiaster is gregarious, nesting colonially in sandy banks. It nests in a relatively long tunnel in which the 5 to 8, spherical white eggs are laid.
In Cyprus Merops apiaster is a common passage migrant and a rare breeder.

Hi Christodoulos.
I like this species so much but can to come nearer to them very seldom. You take nice shot from short and from long distance. Lens work is great. Shot is crisp sharp (main subject) and bokeh is also wonderful. Composition of the image is spot on too. Perfect job and best wishes in coming New Year. Have a nice Holiday Season.
Alexei.

Hello Christodoulos.

These bee eaters are wonderful birds with fine colors. You have captured the two beautifully in nice details. I like the twigs they are perched on looking like some kind of Oriental painting.
Top class work and have a joyful Christmas.

Kind regards - Jusni

Hi Crhis,

One of these birds would have make a wonderful shot, two of them just double the pleasure and beauty.

Excellent POV with enoght space around to show the natural setting. Very good shot. Takes lot of patience to photograph birds and creature that move often.
