The Genus Julodis belongs to Buprestidae and according to the Genus distribution is divided into two main groups. The first is the South African group which is represented by 30 species and the other is the Palearctic group which is represented by 50 species. Julodis are linked to arid and semi-arid shrub habitats and their larvae feed on roots of various species. This photo presents a pair of Julodis armeniaca cypria Obenberger 1917, an endemic species to Cyprus during mating on Juniperus phoenicea at Cavo Greko National Forest Park and Natura2000 site.

Although the BG is a bit busy, this is a photo in superb sharp details and beautiful natural colours. Nice composition.

A superb macro shot of these endemic Buprestid beetles in copulo. Even though the natural BG is busy, they are well seen owing to the fine sharpness and side lighting.
