[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Scientific name:Potamon potamios
This is the only fresh water crab species found on Cyprus! It is found in a few all year flowing rivers (here Kouris river), mainly in the higher altitudes of the Troodos Ophiolithic Complex. Its populations were highly threatened in the recent years due to the use of pesticides and fertilizers for agriculture, overcollection for food, changes in the water balance of fresh water in Cyprus (Overuse of water resources, climate change).

Interesting photo Andreas, these crabs are always hiding! regards yiannis
I like your photo very much as it reflects a universal theme
of the monster lurking in the dark or the unexpected creature ready to create havoc with tooth and claw. The best photos reveal a sense of drama or suspense.Kudos!
-Torin.
Hi Andreas,
unfortunatelly I can't see such water crabs in my country :). Maybe in future I will have an opportunity to visit Cyprus!
Of course very good point of view. Nice colours. Good composition.
Have a nice Sunday,
Maciek
