[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Propomacrus cypriacus Alexis & Makris, 2002. Male

In the genus Propomacrus there are only three species;
Propomacrus bimucronatus (Pallas, 1781) with a distribution from Balkans to Afghanistan
Propomacrus davidi Deyrolle, 1874 found in China
Propomacrus cypriacus Alexis & Makris 2002, endemic in Cyprus. I have the honour to be a co-author on the description of this impressive species.

Propomacrus cypriacus is a large striking beetle in the family Euchiridae (Superfamily Scarabaeoidea)
Its length can reach 40mm and the males have characteristic very long front legs.
It is a rare, strictly protected, species included in Annex II of the 92/43/EEC Directive after a proposal by the Republic of Cyprus. Its larvae feed on rotten wood of aged oaks or carobs. The flight period of the adult insects is August - September.

Hello Christodoulos,
You did a fine job of photographing this rather large looking beetle. The claw-like arms look like they could become fairly lethal weapons if need be.
Perfectly focused and showing off it's body armor in excellent detail and attractive colors. Great work!!
