The nature twins
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Iris haynei or the Gilboa Iris is a beautiful flower blooming for a few weeks at the beginning of the spring in Israel. (around mid March to mid April) The flower's color ranges from purple to pink and sometimes yellow. I took this picture on a family visit to the gilboa where I found these twins enjoying the sun... |
The Iris can be found only on the Gilboa mountains which are located in the lower north east part of Israel near the Jordan valley.
The name of the flower Iris is derived from Greek meanning "The cloud rainbow". The flower's figure was common in Oriental & European art and a symbol for a wide variety of organizations & royal families including the Israeli nature reserve society.

It is good to see a truely wild species iris here on TN, I seem to spend so much time removing garden hybrid images, people forget there are still the original plants out there waiting to be seen like here.
Thank you for sharing these with us and welcome to TN Doron, look forward to future images from you
Makes me homesick for our annual trip to the Gilboa to see these irises.
