Size and Description

This lizard is a maximum of 12" (28-30cm) in total length: adults vary between 8-12". This is a somewhat flattened looking lizard with a rather triangular head, large tympanum and gular fold. There is no dorsal crest (unlike many other agamids). Males can be distinguished by thickened preanal and ventral scales. Both sexes, but expecially the male, can change colour as a result of mood change or excitement, a capability found in many agamas.

Habitat

In the wild, regardless of their actual country, they prefer living in stone walls or among rocks. Manthey and Schuster note that where in low density populations, the agamids may form pair bonds, but otherwise they are solitary. Their retreat is usually a pile of stones or a rodent burrow. Harduns greatly enjoy sunshine and bask on stone walls, rocks and buildings, and also on trees.

Maybe you could crop it in a different way. With a head in a up right corner

Hi Elroyie,
A very clear cpature of this lizzard!
I like so much your POV and the upwards pose catched on the reptil.
DOF used works pretty well, the focus on the lizzard is spot on, while the foreclose stone and background are blurred so nicely.
I think the wide composition made works pretty well in this case.

Hi Elroyie...
First of all thanks for sharing this beautiful photograph.
What do I like about the image and why? Well your very alert subject, a lizard, is photographed razorsharp. Secondly you point of view, as the the camera is more or less at the same height as the subject. And last but not least your depth-of-field generating two very relevant issues: the isolation of the lizard and the wonderfully blurred background.
A minor nit though -nothing can be perfect- is the missing tail...

I'm always a very big fan of great reptile photos! ;)
This is indeed a terrific example! The opse of this agama here is fantastic and your low POV - at the same level with it - gave you a great perspective and also a very beautiful blurred BG.
The rather shallow DOF here is impeccable and it keeps excellent focus on your subject. Due to that, the lizard is presented with very nice sharp details and charming colors.
A terrific diagonal composition, too.
