On this New Year’s Day I found this specimen of red Anemone corunaria blooming under the leaves of Ferula communis (Giant Fennel; Umbelliferae), a tall, up to 2 meters, hemicryptophyte, quite common in the Mediterranean region, which will flower in March.

A very fine capture showing the Red Anemone 'fenced in' by the fennel. The bright red colour is really penetrating!
