The Syrian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos syriacus) is the smallest subspecies of Brown Bear.
They are omnivorous, eating almost any type of food, including meat, grass, and fruits.
This species occupies a large area in western Asia, but their population is declining due to habitat destruction, poaching, and fragmentation of population.
Syrian brown bears historically found in Anatolia (Turkey), Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Iraq, Iran, and parts of Afghanistan. In caucasus, this species is replaced by common brown bear (Eurasian Brown Bear). In Pakistan and southern Afghanistan, Himalayan Brown Bear replaces this species. In southern and south-eastern Iran, this species is replaced by Asian Black Bear.

This is a nice shot. Fur detail is very good and the pose is nice. I am missing the catchlights in the eyes though.

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Alex

What a great pose you have captured, nice details on the fur, I think the colours could be a touch warmer but that could be the lighting conditions.

TFS Hilary :o)

Hi Alex,
Nice shot of this cute [but dangerous] bear. Nice pose, well captured. Well framed.
Glad to see your work after a while.

what a cute teddy-bear, alex! :-)
terrific pose and nice detailed fur,
looks just a little bit dark - bad weather in ramat gan? *g*
the safari is on top of my list for the spring visit.
great job & take care, thorsten.

Ok Alex, I will bite: what makes this bear Syrian?
Is it the way it sits, or the way it smiles? Tfs this rather sepia bear ;) Jay

This is a nice shot. Fur detail is very good and the pose is nice.
