[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Pink Butterfly Orchid or "Orchis Papilionacea" has a fairly short blossoming period from mid February to mid April. Its generally at its peak end of February beginning of March and is the most common of orchids in Israel.
Found from the north down to the center of the country and generally found in the undergrowth or grows in sparce forest areas.A close-up of its flower can be seen here
and its shape explains how it got its name.

Hi David, wonderful orchid with splendid light and colors, great blurry BG, very well done, ciao Silvio

Bonjour David,
C'est vrai que la zone de netteté n'est pas optimale, mais ton cliché est interessant : il nous montre une belle espèce d'orchis, peu fréquente en France (où il fleurit plus tard, d'ailleurs).

I am sorry but you really chose a bad POV for this one. This is my oppinion.
I can't see the flower at its full potential. I mean to say that with orchids is more about the interesting shape of the flower and that can be appreciated from the front. The only flower that is facing me is out of focus. The ones in focus are just sides.
The one on the right is slightly overexposed.
I think what ruins this picture is the POV.

I like the workshop much better!!

Hi David,
I'm an orchid grower and I'm always fascinated with this flowers and their more than 25.000 species.
You played great with the DOF to achieve this very interesting and artistic composition.
We can admire some brief parts fully in focus, with plenty of details on it, and then enjoy the gradations of the subtle purple while vanishing and mixing with the background.
I assume this picture as a creative and artistic presentation, not a documentary work of this species. That's why I like this picture more than the one at the workshop.
Congratulations and thanks for share this picture with us.
Warm regards,

Hola David,
maravillosa macro y nitidez excelente, buena iluminación y compo. genial. saludos

Hi Dave,
A nice capture - I agree with Jose Miguel, the shallow DOF created a nice effect which I find to be very pleasing and interesting.
Colors and contrast are very nice and you have managed the exposure very well.
I like the workshop view as well.

Hello David,
Very nice shot of this beautiful orchid. These are very hard to photograph as their flowers point in all directions. I really like your approach though, we can clearly see one flower sharply in focus to decide the species and the rest illustrates the overall shape and colour sufficiently. The top photographers today rarely show every bit of their shots in focus.
Well done!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Beautiful composition, David.
Orchids fascinate me and this one is a lovely species.
Sharp selective focus and delightful colours.

Gracias y saludos... Ricardo

With DOF perhaps something scarce, a pleasant presentation David, showing with a wonderful coloring and an appropriate illumination to these so beautiful flowers.
I like the composition with rational vertical framing and the obtained point of view.
Interesting the complement of the second image also.
Thank you and greetings... Ricardo
