"MISTER ORANGE EYES"
a.k.a.
The Flesh Fly

Friends, I decided to discontinue my mini theme on the dragonfly Trithemis aurora for the time being.
So, for a change, here is a close-up picture of the orange coloured eyes of a Flesh Fly.
Quite a fascinating colour, don't you think?

A short note on the insect borrowed directly from Wikipedia:

Flies of the Diptera family Sarcophagidae (from the Greek sarco- = corpse, phage = eating; the same roots as the word "sarcophagus") are commonly known as flesh flies.
Most flesh flies breed in carrion, dung, or decaying material, but a few species lay their eggs in the open wounds of mammals; hence their common name. Some flesh fly larvae are internal parasites of other insects. These larvae, commonly known as maggots, live for about 5-10 days, before descending into the soil and maturing into adulthood. At that stage, they live for 5-7 days.

Hi Ram

Amazing macro shot again with this impressive close-up of a fly's face.
The eyes are really standing out well here and they are really vividly colored.
The DOF is very good here and the POV is excellent.
The flash works is also nicely handled, as well.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Ram,
I have never really seen the head of a fly in detail until you posted your shots on TN. This shot allows us to see even more of the superficial structure of a Flesh Fly's Head and the detail makes it fascinating. You also show in detail the 'suction' pads of the feet that allow these flies to crawl up glass. The composition for this POV is perfect.
This is a great shot and a fine contribution to TN and I for one thank you.
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Ram,
One of the things I still cannot understand is why a pentagonal shape seems to appear in the eyes of insects [mostly flies] when these are captured in macro. This can be seen in 'your' fly's right eye. Your choice to choose a shallow DOF works out well in bringing emphasis on the eyes, which after all are the subject of the shot.
Was the fly posing, or was it simply saluting you?
Tfs
