[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello all friends,
Usually I prefer posting shots of same species. So, I try to introduce different species of mine. But today, my policy and I add second post of Pelecanus crispus - Tepeli Pelikan [TR], Crested Pelican , Dalmatian Pelican [EN].
It is one of two species of the family PELECANIDAE (PELECANIFORMES) in Turkiye. Other species: Pelecanus onocrotalus - Ak Pelikan [TR], White Pelican [EN].
Its body lenght is 160-180 cm, wingspan is 280-295 cm. It is a bit larger sized than P. onocrotalus.
Both pelican species have enourmous, pouched bills as like other six Pelecanus species in the world. This part is orange colored in P. crispus, but yellowish in P. onocrotalus. Legs are greyish, eyes are yellow, underparts of wings are greyish white in P. crispus. Whereas in P. onocrotalus, legs are pinky or reddish, membranes around eyes and pouch are yellow or orange, wing fethers black (similar to those of a White Stork (Ciconia ciconia)
These are endangered and population sizes decrease. P. crispus lives in large inner waters, lakes, large marshes and lagoons, e.g. Kızılırmak Delta, Aktaş Gölü (Ardahan), Büyük Menderes Delta etc.
İzmir Bird Paradidea "Gediz Delta" is one of important and rare breeding areas for the pelican.
My previous shot for P. crispus from İzmir can be seen clicking the last link.

Hi Ahmet,

A fantastic and rather humorous capture of this Pelican. There is so much to love about him. The head with the full feathers, the eyes opened so wide, the opened beak and the droplet falling, the wonderful feathers and the wings held behind him. Excellent colors and details of the entire bird. The water with the splashes is wonderful.

Hi Ahmet

That is an expression to put a smile on any face. It is a wonderful moment you have
seen and captured here. Good POV with the frontal approach and the momental eye
contact. Excellent composition too with the bird standing on the 2/3 vertical axis. I do
think the image lack a wee bit of lighting though. I know you're not new to this game
and far being it for me to try and teach you something, but I did a quick workshop just
for the fun to try and bring out a little more daylight. It does seems like the image was
captured under cloudy conditions which probably made it a little darker.

Well done and TFS.

Hi Ahmet

It is the middle of the night here on the Mali/Senegal border - I cannot sleep! Great shot - wonderful timing and good eye contact detail.

I read Loot's comment and had a go at a workshop - my first ever on TN!

Best wishes

Salam Akhi Prof. Ahmet,
you have captured the image so well. the moment is taken is a split of a second. I like the frozen movement of water and the wide open beak.
you have given a very effective emphasis here.
The streaks of feather near the neck is very lovely too, but the two eyes are very special here.
