Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) eriwanensis, (Forster,1960)
Forster’s Anomalous Blue

Turkish Name: Erivan Anormal Çokgözlü Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: Northwest Anatolia, and Eastern Anatolia.

Distribution in the world: Armenia.

Living Area: Hot dry places.

Flight time: Develops in one generation. July to early-August.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Is not known. Insufficient data.

Description-Notes: A Very rare butterfly. Closely resembles its relatives, but its undersides are darker beige-brown, spots on hindwing postmedian band are relatively larger and dark brown marginal spots are more visible on both wings. Hindwing white streak is straight and conspicuous.
Range in Turkey is unclear. While a recent paper shows it to be mainly in Armenia ( barely entering Turkey) in "Die Tagfalter der Türkei" it is said to have colonies in the northeast (mainly Erzurum, Kars and Iğdır) Polyommatus dantcenko a new species described from Van in 2003 is very similar (though) with lighter brown uppersides) and cannot probably be safely identified in the field.
Polyommatus interjectus: Listed as a possible separate species in "Die Tagfelter der Türkei" but nowadays more often treated as a subspecies of Forster's Anomalous Blue. Not much is known about its life history, except that it is found in Sivas-Erzincan Elazığ area.

Wingspan: 32-34 mm long.
