Caucasian Heath / [Lederer’s Heath]

Turkish Name: Kafkasya Zıpzıp Perisi Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: "Caucasian Heath/Lederer’s Heath", showing the distribution of the Lesser Caucasus and Kars Plateau, a local species with a limited area (Tuzov et al., 1997). Since 1980, only Erzurum, Artvin, Ardahan, Kars and Ağrı provinces recorded. Iğdır is much older than the records (1976). The information available, Turkey indicates that the distribution is limited to a small area outside the southwestern Georgia, this property close to the species are endemic to Turkey is one.

Distribution in the world: Near Endemic. Northeastern Turkey, Georgia, southwestern and Akhaltsikhe Located in areas of the border with Turkey (Tuzov et al., 1997).

Living Area: 2000 - 2300 meters plateau heights, forest openings, diverse but mainly grasslands.

Flight time: One generation per year. Early July to mid-August.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, various grasses, including genara Poa and Lolium, plants are fed up with.

Description-Notes: Experience local and rare. Bright orange forewing has a grayish tip below with a small subapical eyespot.Submarginal area of pale orange hindwing is grayish; note the dark basal half and row of small and blind postmedian spots.

Wingspan: 34-38 mm long.

• Eastern Large Heath - Coenonympha rhodopensis, (Elwes, 1900)
• Large Heath - Coenonympha tullia, (Müller, 1764)
• Small Heath - Coenonympha pamphilus (Linnaeus, 1758)
• Saadi's Heath - Coenonympha saadi (Kollar,[1849])

Etymology: Symphyta (Greek syn - together + phyo - grow) - "growing together with" (referring to the close similarity and being together with other species of the genus) (Nekrutenko, 1990). :
