Turkish Name: Romanov Gelinciği Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: East Anatolia, Southeast Anatolia.

Distribution in the world: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran and Turkmenistan.

Living Area: Semi–deserts, dry meadows, steppes, grasslands near the timberline at the altitudes of 1,300–2,200 meters above sea level. Mostly bare, rocky slopes, but also lush flowery meadows.

Flight time: Flies in a single generation. Flying from, mid-May to mid-June to early July above 2000 meters.


Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars develop Astragalus species feeds on plants. Milk Vetch (Astragalus spp.)

Description-Notes: Type locality : Armenia. Rare and local. A small–sized butterfly. The fround color of the wings is black with bright red spot on the discal part of forewings and on the anal part of hind wings. The underside of the hind wings is light green with metallic iridescence. Identified by its plain green hindwing and postmedian of band black spots on foreing, which separates brick red inner area from green margin.

Origin of the name: The species was named in honor of the Nicholas Romanovich Romanov, Prince of Russia.

Endangerment factors: Major threats. Overgrazing, agricultural land use.

Wingspan: 30-36 mm long.

Hello Seyfi,
A new species of Copper for me which appears to possess an almost furry like texture to it's underside wing. Very pretty colors and perched on a beautiful flower with a tiny ant to keep it company. "Happy Easter" to you as well.
