Weaver's Fritillary - Violet Fritillary

Turkish Name: Mor İnci Kelebeği.

Distribution in Turkey: Turkey's Black Sea coast-Thrace and the Black Sea coastal regions.

Distribution in the world: Widespread European species. It does not occur however in the UK. Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, the Caucasus.

Living Area: Weaver's fritillary, 500-1500 meters, between the heights of lives. They prefer to land on mountain slopes, and wetlands.

Flight time: Fly between late April-early September. Can make two or three generations.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Viola (violet) family is fed plants. However, Rubus idaeus, Prunella vulgaris, species have been reported in the fed.

Description-Notes: One of the smallest fritillaries in Turkey. Weaver's fritillary, also known as the Violet fritillary due to the purple hue of it's underside is a fairly widespread European species. Like the others, it is restless and difficult to photograph, rarely returning to the same spot after being disturbed.

Wingspan: 32-36 mm long.

• Small pearl-bordered fritillary-Boloria selene,(Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775)

• Balkan Fritillary-Boloria graeca,(Staudinger,1870)
