[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi, back with another southeast Turkey species. I actually live in Ankara, but a 5-day trip to SE was very productive in terms of photography so I'll just upload from there for a while.
This here is a brilliant male See-see Partridge (Ammoperdix griseogularis-TR:Kum Kekliği). It has a rather limited distribution, from southeast Turkey to Iran and Pakistan, also covering Syria, Iraq and immediately adjacent parts of Caucasus. It breeds in open and dry country or semi-desert, usually with boulders and hills. It is a very terrestrial species and it almost always runs for cover instead of flying.
Male has a very distinctive face mask and neck spotting (separating it from the similar Sand Partidge A. heyi of Near East). Female is much duller and vermiculated.
There are about 4000-6000 pairs in Turkey and population is generally stable. They are confined to a small area, from Gaziantep to around Şırnak.
This male was one of the 6 individuals (5m, 1f) we saw while birding the steppes south of Sanlıurfa. They are not exactly shy but they are wary, even though they almost always stay out in the open. Most of the time we saw them running across a road or a field on the roadside.
Not a close photograph but I like the lighting of this one.

Hello Kuzey,
An absolute stunning bird and one I am not familiar with. The unusual markings on it's breast is gorgeous with bands of black, orangish brown and white colors. The head is nicely patterned also with the gray throat, black stripe from middle forehead extending over it's eye and lined with a pretty white ear patch. Top it off with a bright orange bill and you have one beautiful specimen. Love the wonderful eye contact you managed to capture. Looks like you had some challenging light to deal with, but you managed the exposure perfectly. Well done!!
