Map Butterfly

Turkish Name: Isırgan Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: Kırklareli and surroundings.

Distribution in the world: Central Europe, Central Asia, North Asia, Southeast Asia.

Living Area: Above sea level, 1400 meters altitude gardens, parks, forest edges in the water are particularly preferred.

Flight time: Two generations per year. First-generation beginning of April until the first days of June. July August until the middle of the second generation of flies.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, the first generation of the Great Stinging Nettle - (Urtica diocia L.), the second generation of young stinging Nettle - (Urtica urens L.) leaves of plants fed and thrive.

Description-Notes: Stinging Butterfly lines and patterns mixed with very interesting and a small species. The European Map has two forms. The spring form is auburn an similar to the Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui). The summer form is black and similar to the Poplar Admiral (Limenitis populi) and the White Admiral (Limenitis camilla).In its most extreme displays of seasonal dimorphism. Usually occur in open areas near forested areas. April to May and the beginning of June until the spring generation of so-called orange-winged generation can be observed. The summer months of July and August, with a dark generation of generation is observed. However, the back of the wing does not change colors. Under the wing resembles a network of spider veins. Therefore, the two generations can be easily detected under the wing.

Wingspan: 32-38 mm long.

The rather random pattern on its wings must be the reason why this one is called a Map. Beautiful colours and perfect exposure.I guess your choice of aperture was to get large enough DOF to get even the two antennaes in focus and you almost succeeded.
