Everes argiades / Short-tailed Blue

Turkish Name: Everes Kelebeği


Distribution in Turkey: Turkey's Northern Territory. The Black Sea coast.

Distribution in the world: Northern Spain, France and Greece, and Italy, the Balkans, including most of the east-Japan.

Living Area: Above sea level, 1000 meters of altitude, forest openings, grasslands and bush prefers the edges of the water.

Flight time: Two generation. Late March-early October, according to altitude.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Astragalus-(Milk-vetch), Medicago-(Medick), Trifolium-(Clover), Lotus-(Trefoil) plants are fed up with.

Description-Notes: A small butterfly. This species is similar to the Provencal short-Tailed blue but easily separated from it by the prominent orange spots on the underside of the hindwing. Shorter tails. Families of this type, very similar to each other. "Cupido" and "Everes" is divided into two. Three "Cupido" type has a tail. This butterflies: Everes argiades, Eastern Short-Tailed Blue and Provencal Short-Tailed Blue. Male is deep blue above with narrow black borders, while female is mostly gray-brown. In both sexes, white fringes are conspicuous. On underside of hindwing note the two prominent orange-ringed black spots near tail.


Wingspan: 25 - 30 mm long.

• Eastern Short-Tailed Blue – Cupido (Everes) decoloratus, (Staudinger, 1886)
• Holly Blue - Celastrina argiolus, (Linnaeus, 758)

You're capturing well this butterfly by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see Everes argiades with the white wing and black spotted patterns. You catch a good posture of butterfly on flower. And, the whole is harmonized well by a good color combination.
