Eastern Steppe Festoon

Turkish Name: Stepfistosu Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: Aegean, Marmara, the Northern Black Sea coast and is seen in all regions except Eastern Anatolia.

Distribution in the world: Turkey. Western Iran, Syria, Northwestern Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, and Israel.

Living Area: Altitudes of 750-1750 meters. Open pine forest and dry flowery valleys in steppes.

Flight time:March- April in low-lying areas ; Late May June at higher altitudes.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Aristolochia spp-(Birthwort) plants are fed up with.

Description-Notes: Typical locality, Middle East. Festoons : Medium-size yellow butterflies decorated with black and red spots and bars. Sexes are similar, but females are more heavily marked. Allancastria deyrollei, is a butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. Festoon butterflies, wings, black, yellow or pale yellow dot in a large number of on floors, scalloped wings and rear wings and are easily recognizable by the red spots. A Pale yellow festoon with strongly serrated hindwing and abdomen barred with orange on its sides. Prominent black bars on forewing don't extend across the width of cell. Eastern Festoon black legs, feet Festoon Eastern Steppe brown in color.

Wingspan: 63-85 mm long.
