Hi thanks for stopping by!

This is the same species as my previous posting Rock Ptarmigan, and it was taken at the same place, Gros Morne mountain but later in the summer, as you can see the plumage now is completly drab for camouflage with a snowless surroundings, females also lack the red eye patch that the males have, as Anna noted males stand out a lot because of his red eye patch the female plumage is complelty inconspicuos to be able to blend better with the surroundings.

This particular bird was a very trusting mom, we spotted her and her chicks from 30 meters away to not disturb them we sat and watched them from that distance, to our BIG surprise the mom started foraging with her 7 chicks towards our direction until we were sitting in the middle of a flock of 7 chicks and this proud mother, all the birds less than 2 meters away from us! It was one of the most wonderful bird sightings I ever had. I wish the pictures were better! but I was too involved watching the chicks, I didnt even noticed that the mother was so close to me when I noticed I snaped this shot but then she moved...

Thanks for reading!
