Shot of a female American Goldfinch I spotted at Omega Parc located near Montebello, Canada. Here is more on this finch from Wikipedia:
he Eastern or American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis), also known as the Wild Canary, is a member of the finch family, (Fringillidae). It is migratory, spending the summer breeding season in ranges across southern Canada through North Carolina in the United States and the winter in ranges just south of the Canadian border to the core Southwestern States.
The American Goldfinch is a small finch which changes in plumage color twice a year after undergoing a complete moult, a unique characteristic, as it is only species in the finch family which undergoes a complete moult. It displays sexual dimorphism in its coloration; males are a vibrant yellow in the summer and an olive color during the winter months, while females are a dull yellow-brown shade, which brightens only slightly during the summer. It has adapted several features in order aid seedhead consumption, such as a conical beak to better remove the seeds, and agile feet with which to grip the stems of seedheads while feeding.
