Grey Wolf
Canis Lupus
Loup Gris

The largest wild canid. Fur is thick and usually grey, but can vary from nearly pure white, red, or brown to black. Head-and-body length: 100- 150 cm. Tail length: 31-51 cm. Shoulder height: 66-81 cm. Weight: 16-60 kg, males heavier than females.

Time of mating: January-April. Gestation: 6 1 63 days. Litter size: 1-1 1, mean 6. Duration of lactation: 8-10 weeks. Age at sexual maturity: 22-46 months (Mech, pers. comm.), occasionally 10 months. Longevity: up to 13 years in the wild (Mech 1988), 16 years in captivity.

Social Behavior
A pack-living animal with a complex social organization. Packs are primarily family groups. The dominant pair breeds, with sub-dominant females under behaviourally induced reproductive suppression (Packard et al. 1985). Packs include up to 30 individuals, but smaller sizes (8-12) are more common. An excellent review of wolf social behaviour and ecology can be found in Mech (1970).

Extremely variable, but the majority of the diet is large ungulates (moose, caribou, deer). Grey wolves will also eat smaller prey items, livestock, carrion, and garbage.

The wolf originally was the world's most widely distributed mammal, living throughout the northern hemisphere north of 15° N latitude. Present distributions are much restricted.

Extremely variable, densities being highest where prey biomass is highest.

Picture taken in Parc Omega where they live in captivity but in large fenced territories. Visitors stay in the car, except for the grey wolf area where we walk on a wooden protected trail. This is the second post of this wolf; First post of grey wolf

Anything less then perfect, people are blind. Awesome shot. Your composition is perfect and this is a wall hanger in any room. !!!!!!!!
My only concern is I don't like writing in the image. What a way to go out of 04 and going into 05. Yes!!!!
Well done and keep them coming.

Very very good Rene. Excellent detail and composition. Good work

Great photo. The background helps the main subject really stand out. The snow on the ground makes you feel cold an adds to the "feel" of the image.

Loup Gris, prise Deux!
Formidable!

Very nice capture Rene this wolf is very well seen here in this very alert pose, it is a classic view of one against the woodland BG also nicely OOF to allow the wolf to stand out.
i saw the image when you 1st posted it but not had the time to get back to it but it has stuck in my mind so it must be a good image ;0))))#
