Snowy Owl
The heaviest of North American owls, the Snowy Owl Nyctea scandiaca stands nearly half a metre tall, with a wingspan of almost 1.5 m. As is the case with most diurnal birds of prey—those that are active during the day—the female is larger and heavier than the male.

Adult males may be almost pure white in colour. Adult females are darker, their white feathers barred with dark brown. First-year birds of both sexes are more darkly marked than their adult counterparts. Immature males resemble adult females, whereas immature females are heavily barred and may appear dark grey when seen from a distance.

A dense layer of down, overlaid with thick feathering, insulates the Snowy Owl’s entire body, including the legs and toes, and enables the bird to maintain a body temperature of 38 to 40°C, even when the air temperature reaches -50°C. In strong wind, owls may seek shelter by crouching on the ground behind a windbreak, such as a pile of stones, snowdrift, or bale of hay.
In 1987, the Snowy Owl was named the official bird of Quebec. Source: http://www.ffdp.ca/index_e.asp

Bonsoir Donald
Celui-ci t'a vu car il tourne la tête vers l'arrière.
L'exposition est excellente ainsi que le point de vue.
Je vous imagine couché à plat ventre pour réussir ce cliché.

Beautiful photo. So he is sitting with his back to the camera looking over his shoulder? I would love to know how close you got to him. I love the POV and the simplicity of the composition. The feather pattern and the undisturbed snow are lovely.

Great capture, I love the off center subject against the blue background. Well seen!

Bonjour Donald,
il semble qu'on en verra quelques-uns cet hiver! Bel agencement de couleurs et belle lumière (moi, il m'en manquait). J'aurais aimé savoir comment vous vous y êtes prit pour l'approcher. Beau moment, bien saisit. Félicitations!

Excellent shot. Good composition.

When I saw the thumbnail I wondered if the exposure would be correct, (On these shots it gets tricky) you have it spot on.

Only critique would be the writing on the shot, IMHO that is what frames are for.

Nice note
