Hello all,

Here is a Great Egret photographed at the Carbonneau's Marsh in Quebec, Canada.

It is the first time I saw a Great Egret at this marsh and Great Egrets are quite uncommon in Quebec.

I chose to use spot metering in order to calculate the exposition only on the white feathers of the bird (I really don't care to get a darker bg).

I closed at f/11 to be assured to get the whole bird in focus but maybe I should have tried at f/8 in order to get a more blurry bg. Any comments?

Cool Facts

• The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.

• Not all young that hatch survive the nestling period. Aggression among nestlings is common and large chicks frequently kill their smaller siblings.

• The longevity record for a wild Great Egret is nearly 23 years.

bonsoir Michel

« Any comments ?

Excellent capture in time. Well done.

Hi Michel,

Nice pose and good exposure. Details in white perfect.
f/8 might have been been a good alternative if the focus was on the head of the bird - a bit more blur on the BG and eventualy lower ISO.

Mario

Bonsoir Michel,

Hi Michel.
You have pictured this beautiful bird at amazing moment and pose. I am impressed a lot. Superb timing, wonderful exposure and reproduction of nice white feathers of the bird. A bit blurred dark BG supplements the image of the bird greatly. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.

Hallo Michel
A beautiful well balanced photo with great details and lovely colours, especially the overall white of this lovely birds feathers. Wow, its wingspan is very impressive and so beautiful to look at the way it is opened. Your choice of background is ideal to emphasise the finer details of the egret. Great composition and point of view. Thanks for sharing a lovely image. Best regards.
Anna

Michel,

An excellent composition of the subject in your image. I like the lighting, detail and sharpness of the subject as it is chalenging to display detail on a white subject.

Sheriff

Bonsoir Michel,
