Northern Pintail (female)
Anas acuta
Thanks to Sébastien for the ID.

Although not as numerous as the Mallard, this graceful game bird is still a widespread and common duck, especially in the West, where about half of North America's six million are found. Winter flocks can be very large, numbering in the thousands. Seeds of aquatic plants are the Pintail's main food, but in winter it also eats small aquatic animals; when freshwater habitats freeze over, it resorts to tidal flats, where it feeds on snails and small crabs. Male Northern Pintails are aggressive, often forcing their attentions on females of other species.

That is such a clear picture, with amazing details and wonderful light, especially in the eye. The pose of the pintail is full of tension, and the color of the background is beautiful. An excellent capture, Luc. Merci. : )

c'est vraiment un "close up" ça, et j'aime aussi l'action dans l'oiseau. c'est des images comme celle- ci qui nous fonds aimé le photos.
Merci !

Kia ora Luc, what a beautiful Northern Pintail, I love her pose and expression. She is calling out to you I think! The colors are beautiful, and her feathers are nice and sharp. Very well shown, like all of your photos. Another excellent capture, merci!

What a beautifull pose you have captured her in Luc, I like the sharpness of the feathers and the background really makes her stand out. Due to the pose she has in here, you almost feel the action going on in there. One tiny remark; the tip of her beack seems a little blurred comparedd to the rest of the photo. Great image!

Roguish face Luc ;-) Pose, face, eye - all very good and full of feelings. Perfect details well seen on very good BG. Good, duck work MF :-)

Very nice picture, Luc.
It's a beautiful duck.
Great pose, well composed, nice colours and goo details.
Excellent work, brother Luc.

I love ducks, they have personality. I once had 2 ducks. One disappeared. A duck stood outside my yard quacking, so I let it in. It hid from my dog in th ewood pile, I thought it was just upset from having been gone. Then the next day my duck appeared and quacked out front. Hard to ID white ducks, but this one liked my dog. So then I had 3 ducks..... I also had a mallard once. Ducks are nice pets, eat snails, but are a bit too messy for a city yard.

Great sharpness and DOF Luc! I like the expression on the duck's face.

I'm going to meet Rosana for coffee on October 16 around 4:00 in Montreal. Can you meet us?
