Happy Mothers Day with the Ruffed Grouse
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Hello friends, last year on May 27 I took this|
photo of this Ruffed Grouse incubating her chicks,
I decide to do it my 2017 TN Mothers Day photo.
Last yearI have posted a photo of some of her chicks :
Last year on May 27, I made a double photographer's dream,
take a photo of a the Ruffed Grouse on her nest, and as a
bonus they were just born chicks as she was incubating them,
and second photographer's dream to take a photo of the chick
of the Ruffed Grouse.
If I compare the Ruffed Grouse with the American Woodcock
wish I also took photos of her incubating her chicks,
The Ruffed Grouse is very fierce, it's the only picture
(see in the WS) I have done because all of this after
my click, she ran away to hide in the vegetation followed
by some of her chicks.
Happy Mothers Day.
1/160s f/5.6 ISO1600 85mm (35mm eq:127mm)
The Ruffed Grouse's nest is a simple, hollowed-out
depression in leaves on the forest floor, reaching up
to 6 inches across and 3 inches deep. Females build
the bowl-shaped nest and typically line the bowl with
vegetation that they pluck from the edge of the nest site.
After mating, female Ruffed Grouse choose a nest site at
the base of a tree, stump, or rock in areas with sparse
ground cover that give a clear view of predators.
Nests may also be built in brush piles, or in the bases
of partially open, hollowed-out stumps."

Happy Mother's Day to you too, Asbed!
This is an amazing picture; the bird is so well integrated into its surroundings it's almost invisible.
Thanks and regards.
Ciao Asbed, great camouflage forse this mettere, beautiful capture with wonderful natural colors, excellent clarity and fine details, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
Perfect post to celebrate 'Mothers Day'.
Beautiful picture to show camouflage. Credit goes to you to find such species in such unfriendly place. Nice to see its natural habitat. But composition, visibility (obstruction in front face and body) and POV not such great in my view.
Thanks for sharing this specific period of that bird,
Regards and have a nice mothers day,
