Courtship - Canada Goose style
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Today was a lot of spring activity on the pond. On the melted half males ducks and geese were very busy competing for their mates.|
This guy was declaring very loud his serious intensions, and she, very shy and gracious, was accepting it.
“The courtship behaviour of the Canada Goose is delightful to watch. The gander approaches the female with its neck fully extended, head low to the ground, bill open, tongue raised, as it utters a hissing sound. He may circle around her and affectionately make contact with his bill. If there is a mutually amorous feeling, the two will simultaneously move their necks in a very intriguing weaving pattern. In nature Canadas normally mate for life unless one partner is killed or otherwise dies at which time another mate may be taken.”

I took this picture this weekend, in the small park (Wabukayne) across the street from my house, where I take most of my pictures.
Hand held, no flash, not from a blind.

Nice clear, sharp shot with good timing. The pink tongue makes me smile. Nice catchlight in the eye of both Canada Geese. Good timing! :-)
