... aka "I've looked at clouds that way ... " and
"I've looked at life from both sides now... "

"Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons ev'rywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on ev'ryone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
I'ts cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
"

My fellow Canucks will no doubt recognize the starting lyrics
of the Joni Mitchell song...

I was reminded of this when I was shooting this beetle that was struggling to turn around... As it was using its "grappling hooks" to upright itself I managed to get two shots. Unfortunately in this one it wiggled its rump a wee closer to the camera than I would have liked it, but hey this is/was a live shot... not some dead, pinned up bug in a museum.

I am waiting for an ID. Since we had Hurricane Juan blow thru Halifax [County], there is a lot of blowdown. An infestation of the foreign Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle has likely been aggrevated by this event.
I now live in "the zone"... No softwood lumber may be removed from here. It is believe that the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle made its way to our shores via the container / shipping harbour in Halifax. The beetle was first found in Point Pleasant Park, adjacent to the harbour's container yard.

I don't think that my beetle is the Brown Longhorn, Tepropium Fescum but am awaiting conformation from the Ministerial Order Inspector at the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle Eradication Program...

Meanwhile enjoy my beetle, and imagine its view!

PS The beetle is on a piece of pine bark, that came off tree I lost due to H. Juan...

Hi Jay.
Very interesting shot and amazing pictured situation as ell as interesting note. I like your excellent macro shot, perfect sharpness and details of the beetle, nice reproduction of the texture of the BG. I also like lighting and true colours of the picture. My best wishes and TFS.

Hi Jay,
what you didn't give us both sides now, well the underside is nice and furry. Bob gave me this link see if it helps with the identification. http://www.entomology.ualberta.ca/index.html

Hello Jay,
Excellent capture.I liked harmonious colors, details and cross framing a lot.
TFS..:-)

Next time, you might ASK the beetle to NOT move its "rump" closer to the lens.....;=))

Nicely photoed, with good clarity, and nice
BG colors. One can almost see the sky/clouds
in the "belly of the beast".....

Great accompanying notes, and overall, a
great shot!!

Hi Jay. Your creative side shines through in this one. Good macro of the insect assisted by the notes and sense of humour. TFS. Murray.

Hi Jay ,Bob Cat here.Great use of those song lyrics strange I can't recall Joni doing it but rather Judy Collins,I guess I don't know Joni at all(aka Roberta Anderson from right here in Alberta).Anyway this is fun photo of that roach like insect as seen from this side as for what it is exactly I couldn't tell you.Unusual point of view gives us an opportunity to see details not ordinarily seen. The colour is good and so is most of the focus and thanks for putting up this one.
