Splish Splash, I was takin' a bath
Long about a Saturday night, yeah
Rub-a-dub, just relaxin' in the tub
Thinkin' everything was alright

When along came a lady with a little black box
Sneakin' up on me just like a silly fox ...
(~with apologies to Bobby Darrin and Murray the K Kaufman)

This Common Grackle, Quiscalus quiscul was having a lovely splash in a creek flowing into Lake Ontario. The 32 cm long adult has a long dark bill, a pale yellowish eye and a long tail. The male’s plumage is an iridescent black. The adult female seen here with the waterdrops flying from her feathers is slightly smaller and less glossy. They prefer to nest in trees and shrubs near water but will sometimes nest in cavities or in man-made structures.
And tomorrow, I'd like to tell you a little about where the bird is taking a bath!

Hi Silke,

I laughed at your Splish Splash lyrics. Nice shot of the Grackle having fun in the water. I love the way his eye shines. Beautiful setting and lovely composition with the rocks.

Once in a while we come across not swimming but bathing birds, but it is rare to have a camera at hand!
This little fellow seems very determined to get clean in a hurry, hehehehe...

That eye is amazing.It is like a beacon.Nicely composed shot of this grackle.They are very beautiful birds with their lovely blue head plumage.I like the riparian feel to this shot.Good focus and sharpness.TFS

Hello Silke,
This is a fine capture of a bathing Grackle in a fine composition. Though the eye is small in this picture it somehow seems to dominate the scene, as the bird gazes into the water.
An interesting and attractive shot!
