Well today I got up to a lake full of wildlife. In the bay where I live there were hundreds of different sizes of seagulls, a flock of canadian geese, mallard ducks, swans and some other ducks that I don't know the names of. The reason? They know that the weather is changing. I went out to the shore and threw up some old bread to get them closer but alls I could stir up is the seagulls but thats okay I like them, all Gods creatures are beautiful to me.

So I was expecting my Husband home on the 31st but now theres another storm brewing on the Lakes, its going to be bad. In fact as I type this my Husbands ship along with others are on their way to anchor to wait it out. The winds will reach 50 knots which is about 55 MPH with wind like that trees can be uprooted; considerable structural damage could occurs. Last year we had a storm in December which cause the water out in front of our house to come up to the crest of the 10' bank on the waters edge. Thats the effects here. On the lake the waves will reach 8-11 feet on the Lake I live on, Lake Superior the biggest of the great lakes the waves could build up to 20 feet high.
All the ships on the lakes will be taking refuge in a sheltered bay or a shore in the lee of the wind.

The birds here seem to sense it too, the flock to the bay in front of our house. I know the photo is a bit dark but its for the sense of the mood that the storm is nearing.

Hello Donna,
I love your image, very moody as is the weather by the sound of it. Gooed details and nice composition. Sorry your Captain will be delayed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Donna.

Oh-oh...your changing your style and subjects!!! Good and great...What versatility you seem to have...this is an exceptional and quite different picture for you. At least for the few I have seen. And the quality is great! Subjects are caught in action. An overall really nice image..!

This is a great action shot Donna. You have captured the feeling of the approaching storm. I like the colors and texture of the water too. One always wonders about birds when the winds get that rough.

Evelynn ; )

Hi Donna, fascinating composition with three birds against grey water, soft colors, like a B&W, splendid atmosphere, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Donna,
This is a sharp action shot of gulls feeding up before the storm: it's weird how they sense it. You got good sharpness despite the poor light and it's a fine composition.
The storm frequency and intensity seems to be increasing, perhaps owing to climate change.
Hope it does not have adverse effects on your Christmas,

Hello Donna,
What an amazing pose of this in-flight seagulls you present here!!
Very excellent action shot with superbe details and focusing.
Its colours show us very cold winter storm condition.
Well presented with your note.
TFS and best wishes,
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!

Hi Donna,
The title works very well to quickly describe, and sets the stage for the dark mood of the capture..Great inflight action, and three's always work for me ;}

Hi Donna,

A good capture of the seagulls in flight or on the ice, the point of view is showing a lot of details of the feathers, it also precise. Hopefully the weather will improve, here it is raining. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Donna,
A few minutes ago I heard a weather warning on the news... for the Great Lakes!! Believe me, that is not often in fact it is the first time...
So you better stay indoor and take care!
A wonderful moody image to predict the storm, birds are indeed the best weather girls there are...
Seasonal greetings from Norway,
Pablo -

Hi Donna! Grey--sky, lake, trees, ice. You've captured one of those days on Lake Erie when the whole world seems monochrome. Great capture of those gulls! Very well done! Linda
