Thank you so much for the kind words you all gave to Lucy and I on yesterdays post, it was very much appreciated.
Todays posting of this coyote howling has a little story with which I would like to share. I was out at my beloved Cypress Hills for a hike and had taken the dogs along. This does not usually help when trying to capture wildlife shots, but they need to have a run too. Well they were running around exploring, when ahead on the trail I saw two coyotes headed in our direction, so I quickly called my dogs back and put them on their leads. One coyoye went off into the trees but the other kept coming and only went around us at the last minute. Well when my dogs finally noticed what I was photographing they began to bark. I thought that would be the end of the photos but instead the coyote sat and howled, what luck. He howled several times trying to get his mate to come and see their relatives. We were honored by his presences for 15 minutes then he tired of us and left into the trees.

Hi Rick

Excellent pose/POV - I can almost feel my spine tingling! Great detail - well seen and captured.

James

Happy to hear that you are OK to deal with normal things. Surrising result i might say as the coyotes didnt piss off after barking. Maybe this courage keep them alive in LA and other western mega cities full of people and dogs.

Hello Rick,

You are a lucky feller (-: Two dogs in your vicinity and then still shooting a beautiful howling coyote. Chapeau. The POV, DOF and BG are oké. Natural colors. Have a nice day and TFS BOB

Great shot of this howling canid, I'm starting to like these animals even more. What luck to have captured one howling. Very nice capture Rick. TFS a piece of nature. :)

Hi Rick,
I would be so impressed seeing this scenery for real... This is an incredible moment to live. I'm amazed by this picture so can you imagine how it could be if I was there for real? Beautiful, congratulations!

Nick..

hello Rick

what a wonderful shot, a lovely image, the POV and framing
are excellent, i love the action happening on your image,
thanks for sharing your history i laughed when i read :
« He howled several times trying to get
his mate to come and see their relatives. »

TFS Rick for your image and for the story

Asbed

That is so cool and you are indeed very lucky to get so close as to get good images of the wild ones.....I have had no such luck. while moose seem to be invading Spokane, the coyote stays out on the refuge and grassy plains...I can hear them every morning...even as in a few minutes ago...but they stay far from the city limits...only a few hundred years away..

Hi Rick,

I enjoyed your notes as much as the picture. If I get a dog again I'll ask you how to train him. He seemed to forget his name when we called him. I never left him outside alone because of these coyotes. A wonderful capture of this one howling and a great title. A perfect setting for him.

Jane

Hello Rick,
I just wonder what would have happened if you'd let your dogs loose!! (WHat kind of dogs do you have?) You were certainly lucky to get this great capture while holding on to your dogs! Very fine and well-timed shot, great details and I like the colours in this composition.
Many thanks, Ulla

Hello Rick,
A beautiful animal and the moment is well captured!
Nice background story, and I wonder what might have happened if all animals (read: dogs) were free to do as they like...
A well composed presentation, with attractive colours!
