Hi folks , this photo of a tiger beetle was inspired by one of our TN members Greg (red45) after seeing his fantastic portrait of a tiger beetle I decide to give a try at one myself :-)

the tiger beetles can be a bit tricky to get close to , they are ground hunters, have very keen vision and run / jump / or fly very quickly when disturbed. once you do get close to one though , it is so worth while , getting to watch one hunt is a real treat , they are very quick to snatch up and gobble down ants with their formidable mandibles , I enjoyed this one very much. they can be found rather easily in Alberta , in sandy or hard muddy areas with little or no foliage , their highest populations are found in places such as the Bad Lands.

thanks for stopping in , hope that you like it

Hi Art!

I'm really glad that my picture inspired you to take closer look at tiger beetles. This picture is really good - tiger in typical hunting pose, very sharp and detailed with well visible shinning parts of its body. I hope you had got fun observing these interesting creatures!

Hi Art,
