Hello All,
Todays posting is a male Downy Woodpecker surrounded by fall colors, captured in the Cypress Hills. Hope you like it, to all my Canadian friends here, Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy your day with family and friends, but if you get a chance, share to outdoors with them, especially the young ones as they will be the keepers of our wild places soon.

Hi Rick. A good name for this picture of the Woodpecker. You have captured good detail and colours in the bird with warm colours in the leaves. well done TFS.
Nick..

Happy Thanksgiving to you also! We have several weeks to wait for turkey day... which is good as I may still have a chance to lose a few pounds before gaining them all back with pumpkin pie etc etc etc. I've gained weight since my "cardiac event" because I was supposed to be taking it easy... whereas normally I am pretty active. I got a letter from my cardiologist yesterday saying that tests show "no permanent heart damage!" Wahoo! I'm still going to be careful for a while. Fortunately there is threat of snow everywhere we would want to go to photograph right now so I suppose I wont have an opportunity to overdo it!

I like your little woodpecker and your note is poignant too.

Hi Rick,

Nice capture and very sharp. I particularly like how the leaves act as a frame for the subject.

Hi Rick,

Happy Thanksgiving to our Northern neighbors. Great shot of this Downy Woodpecker surrounded by the autumn leaves. His beak looks like he has been busy - collecting insects? The pose is wonderful showing off his nice face, wings and plummage. Good details and nice blacks and whites. I think I see a touch of red too.

Ciao Rick,
splendida cattura di questo picchio, mi piace molto la composizione con la cornice di foglie dai bellissimi colori autunnali e lo stupendo OOF BG, che esalta la nitidezza e il contrasto dei colori.
TFS.

What more could one ask for...well in my case I could have been born just 100 miles north and be fine....ah well...good shot. Wolfman or whatever Ontario Rob is going by now also did the same theme and I think it is a classic idea...so I am adding it to the classic theme:-)

Very very very pretty, Rick, this bird is so beautiful. I like the light surrounding the bird because of the leaves. Did you know Cypress Hill was part of a huge sea reaching Quebec? We have more in common than it appears ;-)

Well done, Rick.
Good moment. The light is good. Typical sunlight in fall, I think. Better than rain:-)
Beautiful background.

Hi Rick,
An excellent title to go with the compsotion.Indeed framed by the fall leaves, the bird looks very finely captured with the plumage in fine light. You were also able to manage the catchlight in the eye and the fall leaves make a fine contrast to the colour of the bird.
TFS & Cheers

What an amazing collection of nature photos you have here in this collection. I stopped on this little one as we have those here in NC in great abundance. Thanks for all the time and effort you spend getting such amanzing photos.
