Just another day out on the field. This time near at the Manitou river at Michael's Bay, Manitoulin Island. Ontario.

I had My daughter and son with me. It was Naomi's turn on the S5000. We came up to an area where these flowers were growing. They were about five feet tall in some areas. It was funny to watch Naomi taking pictures of the Monarchs as she would disappear and reappear.
I only had the 17-85mm on, I should have put the 100-300mm. It was hard to get up close as they would take off. Some, like this one who looked old, the colors were not as striking as the others allowed for some shots.
Figure this out, these Monarchs migrate from further North than Manitoulin Island, down to Mexico and some will return. Amazing.
I was looking for Dflies, nothing. I was surprised.

Hand held the 20D
17-85mm IS and 67mm Hoya U.V.
No flash, as I prefer the Natural light when I am working outdoors.
Manual
1/40 at F13
ISO 400
In photoshop elements 2, cropped the original for this composition, bright/cont and usm adjustments, frames and my name.

Excellent shot. Even the pose of the butterfly is good.

Nicely captured Mike,
Brilliant POV, good DOF and colours. You must have a very steady hand to get the details so sharp at 1/40th. Well composed and nicely exposed.
Thanks for posting

What a superb butterfly that you have well captured ! Composition, colors, details and sharpness are very good ! Thanks for sharing Mike.

Hello Mike, Perfectly exposed with sharp details and excellent DOF. Hard to believe you got this one at 1/40th and hand-held! Looks like this monarch has survived an attack or two..Very well composed, Great work!

Hello Mike

This b'fly must have been in a battle as it is missing some of its wing. Nice POV. It stands out nicely against the OOF BG. Good light and exposure. The wing colour is very dull on this one. Nice sharpness and clarity. No nits. Thanks.

Hello Mike, very nice composition and good control of exposure. The DOF has got everything in here and you have managed to get a nice clean BG. Very good all round. Well done.

Maghnifique macro. Très bon cadrage.

Perfectly fitted in your frame, superb sharpness (if I can take it from the screen...) and the combination with the flower, making beautiful colours, fantastic Mike ! !
