Hello all,

I took this picture of a Tree Swallow at Baie-du-Febvre in Quebec under a very cloudy sky. This Tree Swallow let me go very near at my great but happy surprise. I was able to approach it more but the focal of the lens forbid me to do so.

What a look, isn'it?

Thanks for commenting :)

Cool Facts:

Outside of the breeding season the Tree Swallow congregates into enormous flocks and night roosts, sometimes numbering in the hundreds of thousands. They gather about an hour before sunset at a roost site, forming a dense cloud. They swirl around like a living tornado and as darkness approaches they then wheel low over the cattail marsh or grove of small trees. Large numbers drop down into the roost with each pass of the flock until the flock disappears.

The Tree Swallow uses many feathers from other birds in its nest. The feathers help keep the nestlings warm so they can grow faster. They help keep levels of ectoparasites, like mites, low too.

The Tree Swallow winters farther north than any other American swallow, and it returns to its nesting grounds long before other swallows come back. Its ability to use plant foods helps it survive periods of bad weather.

Hallo Michel
This is just excellent! You have captured it sooooo well, so clear, so in details, sooooo sharp! The colours are brilliant. Just love that look it gives you - straight in the eye. Thanks for sharing this wonderful portrait. Best regards.

Hello Michel,

A fine portrait, good eye contact!
The plumage is superbly reproduced, sharp fine details...
A well composed presentation to show the swallow!

Hi Michel.
I am very glad to see you here again. I am not frequent visitor last year despite I am very busy on work. That is why I have missed your returning and many-many your amazing shots. Sorry.

This one is incredible. Fantastic close-up, splendid reproduction of feathers and all other features of the charming bird, touching eye-contact and superb delicate lights and colours. Bravo. Great job.

Hello Michel !
Every year, we have a pair of Swallows breeding in our barn but I have never managed to get any picture - in this you are so much better than me ! I love this portrait. Usually we see birds from the side, here I like how the Swallow is looking diresctly at you. We can see every little detail of his face and plumage, it's impressive. I also like the composition, the soft colors and the blurred BG. Very well done !

Bonsoir Michel,

Hellow Michel,
Brilliant image with great detail and colouration, well taken.
Thanx for your honest critique, much appreciated.

Hi Michel,

Hello Michel,
I always enjoy viewing the Tree Swallows in the early spring time while I'm birding up at Magee Marsh. What a spectacular shot of this gorgeous individual. You were very fortunate that it allowed you to get this close. Exceptional detail and beautiful coloration. Well done!!
