Another pic of White-Rumped Sandpiper. This time is a nice pose!

The White-rumped Sandpiper breeds in the extreme northern tundra of Canada and Alaska. Identification marks include size (larger than semipalmated and least) and long wings. Only the Baird's Sandpiper shows similar wing length, extending beyond the tail. Another telling identification mark is the prominent white stripe over the eye.

Breeding on the ground, the White-rumped feeds on insects, marine worms and mollusks.

A long distant migrant wintering in South America.

This photo (with some sharpening and slight cropping) was taken at Presqu'ile Provincial Park in Ontario

OOO, I am jealous, this is one of my favourite birds! I love how you got the whole bird in focus, the dynamic pose and the subtle reflection in the eye which is the catchlight in this case AND the reflection in the water. The neutral background and the ripples fading to infinity are also a very nice, fortuitous touch. The fact that both the rump and the pale colouring at the base of the bill is showing both add nicely to the documentary aspect of the image, but the artistic value is very high too. Very nice indeed! I imagine this will be a keeper?

pure awesomeness!! shadow feathers and right down to the lil drip on his beak
