Taken behind my father's house.

Araneus diadematus is popularly known as the "Garden Spider", and indeed it is quite common in gardens, though it is more a species of scrubby heathland or amongst gorse.
It is a typical spider, with, in this species, eight eyes, its thorax and abdomen clearly differentiated, the abdomen lacking any external segmentation and with a silk-producing spinner at the rear.

This is one of our larger spiders, length (excluding legs) up to about 13 mm. The dorsal, white cross on the abdomen is diagnostic for the species. The photographed individual is a female, with a larger abdomen, in this case probably swollen prior to egg-laying. (Indeed, since it was encountered making its way through vegetation away from any web, it may have been searching for a suitable egg-laying site.)

Araneus species spin orb-webs - usually vertical webs between plant stems, branches, etc., with a spiral spun on strands radiating from a defined centre. A signal thread runs from the centre to a retreat in the surrounding vegetation, the spider responding to vibrations by running to the centre to locate the ensnared prey.

superbe !
on se croirais dans une film de science fiction, avec ce gros monstre.
l'araigner est superbe ! les couleurs, la forme ! tous ces yeux !
je n'arrive pas a distingue d'ou provient un eclairage si " fluo", et sur quoi repose la bete ?
superbe clichet !

Hi Luc
This is something SO right out of a nightmare! You nailed a very interestin affect, with the shallow dof, rendering the eyes and front legs in focus, the balance being soft. If you want the whole body in focus, shoot f22 od smaller. At this level, shallow dof is part of the optics/physics.

Luc, very artistic / futuristc capture of this spider. The composition is unique and the effect you got simply stunning. It is not a very natural look, but thats not a critique. I like the look of it.

Wauw Luc,
What a macro, the new alien, very good spider shot, very special with that daf, the sharpness of the front, Yes I like this one a lot, great job

Well luc, I love the POV and the colours and the overall composition. Very, very nice. I dod think it required a bit more DOF though, I know you have F8 max but F8 is a big difference from 3.1. Good work. If you want to find out what it is then by the look of the eye layout it belongs to Araneidae. You'll have to look at the rest of the spider to get a closer ID.

I also feel that this shot needs more of a note.

C'est vraiment une photo originale ! Le flou donne un effet suréaliste !
Well done !

Luc, you dont say nothing about the size of this one, but really looks very, very small. As Paul says a higher DOF would help a lot. I like the POV very much. Thanks for posting.

The aliens have landed.. ;-)) The colours and light give an eerie sensation to this one, but I'd go with Paul in suggesting a higher F-stop next time you get a chance.

Luc - Artistic, nice effect although a tad more depth would've made this one even better!! Great job!

Excellent macro, Luc!The view is nice, makes atmosphere. The DOF/sharpness is great.
Good work!

Very well presented! Excellent point of view.

excellent macro, very well presented.

Hola Luc.

Wow, you've outdone yourself I think. This picture gives not only a great intent look at this creepy-crawlie, but also paints an immense poison-like cyberic mood. Going straight into my favourite, no hesitation needed!

Scary view on this monster...
Great shot

Whoooahh ! So nice! Nice closeup, greats details on it ! It looks mean ! :)

Nice closeup and composition, greats details on it, the eyes very interestin. Well done !

Amazing picture!
Superbe prise de vue avec de belles couleurs et de fins détails, beau et laid en même temps je n'aime pas les araignées !!!
très réussi Luc,

The brown legs against the blue background is what appealed me to this pic. Very good close-up of a spider and it must be difficult.

Thx for your comments and suggestion and I found out how to keep a descent size of the pic by reducing its weight by compression level when saving. Yan
