Hello friends, this is not my best photo,
it is not the best otter photos of TN,
but i am very happy that yesterday i saw
and shot in photo my first Otter.

Here is the history of this photo :
photo shot at the 2nd marsh and footbridge
of the Parc Nature Bois-de-l'Île-Bizard.

I saw this animal doing great waves coming
straight on me, i was at the footbridge,
when i did this photo at 18:02:29 first
i taught this is a Beaver, but more this
animal was swimming on me more it was not
a Beaver, it was not neither a Mink, this
animal was a monster in that water, so from
18:02:29 to 18:02:34 5 seconds i stopped
shooting photos and watch this animal
and then said myself « hey this is the
Northern River Otter ! it is my first Otter ! »
my next shot was to late at 18:02:34
this otter dived in to the water, i saw him
coming to me under the water, at 18:02:38
i did a photo the Otter under water
but from the 3 photos i did only this one
it is publishable the Otter is from far.

I am very pathetic with a portrait lens
i am doing wildlife photography !
Even this photo that the Otter is from far
i have done 50% of cropping to have it closer.

1/500s f/11.0 ISO1000 50mm (35mm eq:75mm)

I want to dedicate this photo in Memory
of Celtick & Ranger my 2 Griffons Korthals
pointing dogs that they where great
swimmers like the Otters.

Today i went again that place, waited about
2 hours hopping to see again this animal but
it did not come out, i wish one day i will
do a better and from closer Otter photo.

from Canadian Museum of Nature website

« This stocky, muscular, amphibious member
of the weasel family is distributed throughout
most of North America, except the Far North.
They attain a maximum length of about
1.4 m (4.5 ft.) and a weight of about
13.5 kg (30 lb.). Northern river otters
have thick lustrous fur. »

Merci

Asbed

Hello Asbed,
The otter may not have cooperated fully in your favor this time, but I'm sure with your persistant attitude the time will come when you get a closer encounter.
The overall image is still very beautiful even though he stayed mostly hidden in the water. Colors are simply gorgeous throughout the entire frame.
This was definitely a special moment for you as it was your first sighting of a new animal. I can still vividly remember my first and only sighting of a River Otter in the wild, and will never forget what a thrill it was.
Ron

nice artistic capture, almost like a painting, greetings Ori

Gotta love that otters head doing what it does at very best. This is the way most people see them and forget to take pictures...good click!

Wonderful new entry Asbed....wonderful indeed! I love the incredible pleasant broken lines of the tree's reflection in the water. Seems to me that in this moment the Otter is unaware of your presence and continuing follows his daily routine. Great! The technical execution of this shot has been managed the best possible way in my opinion. Fantastic choice of relatively closed aperture which created an endless depth of field, brilliant shutter speed etc.etc. The soft late afternoon light was on your side and your camera captured the most delicate highlights and shadow details. Great image Asbed! Great!

George Veltchev

Hi Asbed, do not be so modest. This photo is excellent with the play of colour and lovely reflections.

Bonjoure Asbed,

Anne
