Hello friends, not having new
photos here is another one form
my spring 2011 archives. Photo shot
at a woodcock chick banding activity
for the Canadian Government, assistant to
a friend that he do woodcock chick banding.
These chicks they was 6 days old.

These woodcock chicks where photographed
once they where banded, we put them where
we find them (with the help of a pointing dog),
and when we leave the place Mommy woodcock and
the chicks they find each other by whistling.

from New York State Departement of Environmental Conservation website

« The woodcock requires a diverse mix
of habitats to thrive, including riparian
shrublands and forests (land along riverbanks),
as well as upland shrublands, early successional
forests and forest thickets. Within these areas,
second growth hardwoods provide important nesting
habitat, while areas with thick cover and moist
fertile soil with abundant worms are used as
feeding grounds. In addition, the woodcock
uses new clear-cuts, large fields or pastures
for night roosting, and males need small
openings in the forest to sing over. »

Ciao Marco.
Grazie della condivisione.

They are truly camoflaged critters! You would certainly need a good "pointer" to find them. I think a slight oversaturation (some of fine down coalesced together if one looks close. Anyway well done and TFS.

Salut Asbed,un rendez vous tres joli, excellente capture de cette nouvelle famille,un peu confuse mais avec des excellents details et couleurs.Mes compliments et belle soiree',Luciano

How you managed to focus on them behind all that grass, I have no idea. It's a great example of camoflage. I would never have guessed they would be as large so soon after birth. It's a very distractive picture, but it shows you how some shots are meant for a closer look. TFS Trevor

Very adorable, cute chick taken from a good angle.
best wishes,
