Here this surprised me. At first I thought this chipmunk was eating an acorn. Today I got to wondering if it was a leech so I blew it up. What I saw was caterpillar legs under it. YUK! I just looked up what they eat and they do eat insects. Surprise to me.

Chipmunks have an omnivorous diet primarily consisting of seeds, nuts and other fruits, and buds.[11][12] They also commonly eat grass, shoots, and many other forms of plant matter, as well as fungi, insects and other arthropods, small frogs, worms, and bird eggs.[11][12][13][14][15][16] Around humans, chipmunks can eat cultivated grains and vegetables, and other plants from farms and gardens, so they are sometimes considered pests.[11][17] Chipmunks mostly forage on the ground, but they climb trees to obtain nuts such as hazelnuts and acorns.[11][18] At the beginning of autumn, many species of chipmunk begin to stockpile nonperishable foods for winter. They mostly cache their foods in a larder in their burrows and remain in their nests until spring, unlike some other species, which make multiple small caches of food.[11] Cheek pouches allow chipmunks to carry multiple food items to their burrows for either storage or consumption.[12]

Hi Trevor,
nice shot - not too sharp - but very cute! Yes squirrels eat everything. They also rob birds nests!

Dear Trevor
A really cute candidate for my theme "Animals feeding, part two"

It is a tasty morsel enjoyed by the chipmunk with closed eyes :-)

I think, the impact would be greater, if the animal was not in the middle of the photo, but slightly to the left. You will achieve this easily with a bit of cropping on the left side.

Thanks for sharing.
Warm greetings from the Tzaneen Dam in Limpopo, South Africa
