Large Tree Nymph (Idea leuconoe)

FAMILY: Nymphalidae

LOCATION: Thailand to Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan.

HABITAT: Tropical forest, coastal, and swamps.

The picture of this butterfly was taken in the Crystal Garden Conservation Center in Victoria, BC.

The Crystal Garden Conservation Centre has closed. It was located in the historic Crystal Garden Building behind the Fairmont Empress Hotel. The Crystal Garden originally contained the world’s largest indoor saltwater pool which operated from 1925 to 1967. In 1980 the Crystal Garden Building re-opened as a conservation centre. The Crystal Garden Building will now undergo structural and seismic upgrading and re-open with a brand new use in 2006.

Hi Stephan, very nice close-up you start with.
I suppose you used a tripod with the long shutterspeed 1/80sec. It's a bit tight and it's some noise but it's still a nice picture.
Good details and nice colours.
Well done.

Welcome to TN.

Hi Stephan, nice opening.
Great bokeh and lighting, I agree with Gert about the tight crop.
Focus is on the edge of the wing, it should be on the head.
The frame is too heavy Imo, welcome TN.

Keep sharing.

Formidable prise. Quelle netteté, on en redemande. Merci.

Hi Stephan,
wow, this is so marvelous. Such a beautiful butter fly with good sharpness and a very good contrast. Very well done, thanks.
A warm welcome here at TrekNature, I hope to see more of those phantastic shots, bye

great bfly! nice close-up. i like your framing and composition. tfs

Very nice composition and subject, Stephan. It is a bit soft but I tried a new sharpening technique and did a WS. Please tell me what you think.

J'aime beaucoup les couleurs douces de cette superbe composition. Le cadrage serré est très efficace pour mettre en valeur ce papillon.

Salut Stephane, jolie papillon!

Nice shot, with excelent composition and great natural details specially in the wings. Tha head is just a bit blured but still a great post. I love the BG. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Stephan - Great DOF and composition and with good clarity. One can feel the texture of the wings
