Another Black Bear
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Another bear strolling along the far bank of the Somass River, a little closer shot this time. This image has been cropped by about 50%. It is nice to have the river between for safety when photographing bears, but in truth they are numerous in this area and we often get them in our back yards, eating fruit off the trees, raiding the vegetable gardens and rumaging through any unprotected garbage cans. |
Last autumn we had a female and two cubs using the area behind our home as a 'picnic' site. Every night they would drag the neighbourhood garbage into our yard and spread it all over the place, then leave steaming piles of poop as their personal gift. My husband got fed up with cleaning up after them and he sprayed the lawn with a watered down solution of bleach (about a 1/4 cup to 1 1/2 litres of water). They didn't like the smell and we had no more problem.
