His Eminence the Cardinal II

Northern cardinal
Cardinalis cardinalis

Northern cardinals are native to the Nearctic region. They are found throughout eastern and central North America from southern Canada into parts of Mexico and Central America. They have also been introduced to California, Hawaii and Bermuda. Cardinals have expanded their range considerably since the early 1800’s by taking advantage of moderate temperatures, human habitation and supplemental food available at bird feeders.
Northern cardinals are not migratory; they are year-round residents throughout their range. They are active during the day, especially during the morning and evening hours. In winter, most cardinals flock and roost together. During the breeding season, they are quite territorial.

Taken at the end of last August at the Botanical Garden of Montreal. He was occupied nourishing his large baby who had just learned how to fly.

Thank you for looking.
Have a good day!

Hi my friend!

He looks rather shy. Very summer and sunny picture, great, saturated colours, good details. Shadows on his body are minor nit, but I like his big, shinning beak :-)

Hi Luc

You can almost read his mind, 'Damned Paparazzi'. Nice shot. He can't hide behind the green foliage of the tree as his beautiful red suit makes him very visible. TFS.

What a big ugly baby for such a beautiful parent!! But I bet him mom and dad love him...
The contrasting colours are good here Luc, I just wish I could see more of him... He thinks he's hiding from you.
Kia ora my friend, it's getting a tad cooler here lately, but I hope not for long.
Have a good weekend

Hello my friend Luc,
very good moment you captured! This is a very nice composition! Excellent colours, sharpness and lighting. As usual excellent POV and note too. Thank you Luc. Very well done. Have a great weekend. I will hope it´s spring soon.

Hi Luc,
You have captured the perfect RGB color spectrum in this shot. Red bird, Green foliage, Blue sky. My favorite bird! The Cardinals will win the World Series this year! This looks great!

Hi Luc,
An excellent shot for this site showing us that the male cardinal obviously does not have a need to blend in and be camouflaged!
This one stands out well peeking from behind the cedar branch. He must be a savvy fellow to be able to survive in the wild dressed like that...;-)
Very nice!

Hi Luc,
his eminence seems to be a little shy - hiding behind the bush. What a beautiful bird, also seems to be very big. We don't have them here in Germany, we have other red birds - bullfinches, do you have them in Canada?
Thanks for this beautiful shot, bye

Hi Luc
I love the way how you isolated 'His Eminence' from the surrounding vegetation through the brilliant light and colours, yet he is still part of the bigger picture as reflected in the OOF plants and the speckles of blue sky in the background.
Although this is not a full on shot of the cardinal, I can see the artistic hand at work.
Very well done and TFS.

Hi Luc,
good captured, superb shot. I like the DOF and colours. Cardinal is beauty a bit covered. Good work.
Rgs, Aleksander

Hi Luc,
I think this is a very shy bird and is hiding from the paparazzi.;-)
Nice colours and good POV. The DOF is also very good.
Well done, young brother.

Great image with acompanying information, I think it is so amazing to see how the not so attractive young cardinals bloom into such beauties. :)

Hallo Luc,
Commentaar van mij zeg natuurlijk niet zo veel, maar ik kijk vol bewondering naar de foto. De combinatie van het groen van de boom met rood van de vogel is fantastisch. Dat de foto scherp is voor u van zelfsprekend.
