[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my first post and I am fairly new to photography so I would welcome comments. I was tempted to crop this photo but decided to leave my first picture untouched (bar resizing).

I am fascinated by all small furry mammals and after a recent trip to Canada I have a collection of many different types which I hope to share over the nest few weeks and maybe get a few that I don't know identifed.

I was pleased with this photo as it is the first one I have that shows the squirrels wonderful feet. This fellow came to stare at me as I was sitting quietly under a tree

Does anyone know if there are different types of red squirrel? in my travels I have noticed some that are larger and with darker fur.

Welcome to TN! I like the DOF and the feeling of trading stares with the squirrel. Tough call about the crop-maybe just 1cm might have put the eyes at 1/3. TFS

you start wiht a nice picture. I like the pose and the POV ( Point Of View). Good details and nice colours.

Welcome on TN. Great first post with a very good point of view. The Squirrel looks a little ambivalent - curious and still a little alert. Great sharprness with plenty of details in the fur. Colours look great and natural.

You did very well for the first post. No need to be nervous. Most of the members here are fiendly and helpfull. You get to learn a lot if you participate by commenting their photos as well.

What makes your photo special is the POV as Gert explained. The details are sharp and well exposed. In future be carefull of distracting BG (Backrounds). You will notice the piece of wood?? running through the BG. Now imagine the photo without it...

Hi Karan
A very belated welcome to TN and hopefully we will still see many of your fine photos posted here on this site. Being late to welcome a new member sometimes has pleasant advantages as one can see a clear picture of such a member’s level of TN participation and/or activities.

I have worked through your entire portfolio and must say 'Well done'. From this very first photo onward, you have posted neat images that were well researched and you provided excellent and interesting notes with each posting. This goes for all your animal shots and also for your lovely landscapes. Every species and/or location were well identified and it also has a fair share of your own personal observations and insights.

To date you have posted 13 photos (almost 1 a day), received 75 critiques, and written 91 critiques. This is commendable and very much in line with the objectives and spirit of TN. Do so forth and I am sure you will soon be considered as one of the mainstays of TN.

This composition and in-your-face POV is excellent. You have captured a lovely moment with great eye contact. Although the squirrel behaved in a very curious manner, you can still see that it is very alert and ready to take off at the least sign of danger. The colours are very natural and the details in the frontal area (where it matters) are stunning. The BG is nicely OOF and the exposure/lighting was handled very well.

This little fellow seems a bit curious, like "why did you pick me to photograph"..!
This is a super first posting, DOF spot on and the little fellow stands out well...
