WINTER SKY IN THE MOUNTAINS

We went for a hike on Sunday and when we reached the top of the small mountain this is what we saw. The snow took on a blue hue and the clouds in the sky looked like snow. We saw Chickadees and even a swarm of flying insects. The temperature in the sun must have been +12, very warm for January.

What I liked about this image was how the large evergreens framed in the snow, rock and sky. It's a bit on the dark side but it is in the shade.

I brought my smaller camera on this hike as it doesn't weight as much as my 30D. It took us about one and a half hours to get to the top.

Hello Janice,
Beautiful lanscape captured here!
The POV used is so good, following the path of the snow, to focus the attention on the pines, clouds and the blue sky.
You made a really good composition.
I like the light and illumination, that gives you that subtle blue tone on the snow.
I really enjoyed your note about the hike.
Congratulations, thanks for share and best regards,
JM

Hi Janice,
Patches of light on snow surface are clearly visible...indicating sharpness of this image.
Very nice angle, directing view to an open beautiful blue sky....
Well composed picture.

Hi Janice,
it's a beautiful winter landcape with nice compostion and POV.
It's also well exposured and thew details are good too.
Well done.

Hi Janice,
this is a sublime photo and I rather like it.The composition is simple and pure like the mountain air.On Sunday here in High River there was no snow anywhere except in the shade of wooded areas and behind some buildings. If I were there ,I would see much the same thing as my glasses are photo gray lenses so your picture is right as rain. The point of view is very good and the lighting is great.Maybe zoomed in towards that rocky detail might bring it out more, but that might upset the balance of this picture. Insects in January, yes I had an unwanted guest in the guise of your common housefly here where I live on this past Sunday.Have you ever seen a butterfly this time of year?It does happen, the mourning cloak butterfly sometime makes an appearance on warm Chinook days,to feed on tree sap. Bob

Hi Janice,
What a great capture of a lovely scene. Color, composition with the pines as a border as you said work well here, thanks for sharing. When was the last time there were fly bugs in January.
Rick

Hi Janice, what a super winter scene. And it looks like it must have been a steady climb for you to get up there.
I like your POV and how the trees are positioned against the sky too. Well done,
Janice

This is a wonderful composition Janice. I like it a lot. I tried using "Highlights and Shadows" on your photo and it is amazing how bringing out a little detail in the dark areas, really adds to the richness of the photo.

I do the same thing....take my lighter point and shoot on hikes rather than the 30D.

Hi Janice,
It might be a small camera, but the result is as good as one with a big camera. Wonderful colors and exposure with great details.

Hi Janice,
Snow days are rare where I live, though we had one today. Sometimes I wish we'd get enough to make it worthwhile to own a pair of crosscountry skis. It looks like you don't have that problem where you live...;-)
This landscape is very beautiful. You've done a nice job composing and framing it. It sounds like the hike was very enjoyable with a nice reward at the top that we all appreciate you sharing.
TFS,
Dave
ps fresh out of points...;-( I'll be back tomorrow w/ a couple...;-)
Points as promised!-)

bonjour janice
C'est un magnifique paysage d'hiver avec une très belle composition on a envie d'aller y faire de la raquette.
Bravo et au revoir...JP

Belle photo, de ce beau coin de montagne,la photo est très claire, les détails bien nets. Amitiés Thomas

THIS Janice is my kind of winter! The clean crisp air. The clean crisp view... and clean crisp colours and contrast.

No need to bore into shaded areas, when the brightness naturally blinds us. Just a clear view. And no snow so blue!

I like the uphill line meeting the almost diagonal from lower right to the trees on left. Well done. Tfs, J.

Janice, great composition and exposure, so that there is no overexposure upon the whites at all.

Great composition and pov.

Hello Janice,
Some snow but not that much!
I like the composition and how we see the trees against the sky, good diagonal...
Good textures in the snow, otherwise a sharp fine image with good natural colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -
