Gray Cardinal.

The Pyrrhuloxia is a resident of Mexico and the southern parts of the U.S. states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

The Pyrrhuloxia (Cardinalis sinuatus) is a medium-sized North American bird in the same genus as the Northern Cardinal and the Vermilion Cardinal, which is a South American species.

The most obvious differences between the male Pyrrhuloxia and the Northern Cardinal are the former's largely gray coloring with a red breast, a red rather than black mask, and a yellow parrot-like bill. The females of the two species resemble each other much more closely, but the shapes of their bills are diagnostic. The songs of the two species are identical, though the Pyrrhuloxia's is not quite as loud.

There is a sexual dimorphism in coloration. Male Cardinalis sinuatus are mainly gray with red located on the face, crest, wing, and tail The female is grayish brown, and is sometimes mistaken for a female Northern Cardinal, Cardinalis cardinalis The females have red highlights on the thighs and the wing linings The bill is heavy and hooked in both the male and the female In the male, the bill is orange yellow while the female's bill is a duller yellow Both the male and female have the diagnostic tall crest on the head The juvenile Pyrrhuloxia, male or female, resembles the female except the bill is darker.

Hola Primo,

A beautiful Pyrrhuloxia and a wonderful portrait. Ours don't seem as beautiful as yours - in fact, many here seem to be funny looking. Excellent colors and details of the face and plumage. I love the pose on the wire and the nice blue sky background.

Hi Luis

Actually me and bobbed-wire are not good friends at the moment. I've been scratched
rather badly in the process of capturing my latest lion posting so you'll forgive me for
pretending it is not there (chuckle). No seriously, this is a great shot of the Pyrrhuloxia
(shame, what a name to give to such a lovely bird – it sounds more like something you
would give to someone who has a runny stomach). You have captured excellent sharp
details. The colours are natural and I just love the highlight in the eye. The BG showing
the gorgeous blue sky made the bird stand out handsomely.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Luis,
We saw a lot of these in Kauai, Hawaii. (Introduced species)
Great & detailed presentation, indeed.
Looks like it was "posing" just for you.
It's even "inviting" you with its direct look into your camera.
MOST LOVELY.
Mario from Canada with friendly greetings.
