This is a lesson and a dedication. The lesson is how I salvage old pictures and the dedication is to Ron Warner. Ron is from Ohio and grew up in similar locations as I did at around the same time.

To understand how this was done and why it is as it is you really need to see the video on how I did it. that video can be seen by clicking How to Salvage old Photos by Bob Shannon

These pictures were taken in 1970 in the Cleveland Metropolitan Park system which is called the Emerald Necklace because it is so very large and circles the entire Cleveland Metropolitan Area. All of the images were taken at the "Euclid Creek Reservation" which is a small stub on the E Side of the system.

It was mid fall and it had snowed VERY early in the season. My wife and I had only 1 of our children at the time and we went to the p ark to take these images. The large pictures and negatives and even the 4x6 pictures are all gone. How did I do this? You have to watch the video.

The image in the top left of snow on leaves was entered in the Jewish Community Center Photography show and contest and was deemed the award winning picture by the one and only judge of hundreds of images, André Kertész (July 2, 1894 – September 28, 1985). André was Hungarian Jewish photographer of some note and his history can be seen by cut and pasting his name into Wiki.

Ron Warner (tuslaw) sent me a very nice Pentax K1000 and it has inspired me to go back to film part time. My wife had also asked..but Rons gift put the icing on the cake which is why this choice of ancient images is dedicated to Ron.

Hi Bob
Beautiful autumn - winter compilation. All the shots are great. First of all interesting moment - transition between two seasons. I like also the mood on your shots and great orange and red vs white and grey.

I like your colage with mixture of snow, gold leaves, water. I miss this atmosphere, here in Belgium. It is a time to stay inside, near the fire, with a cup of boiled wine. Thanks a lot!

Hi Bob,

A lovely collage reminding almost everyone of what is coming. Beautiful fall colors and the snow is pretty in pictures. This is a reminder for me of the changing seasons back east. I'm sure Ron will love this.

Thank you Bob,
I feel honored to have you dedicate such wonderful treasures of your past experiences to me. The images are a showcase of how beautiful the state of Ohio really is.
We have four seasons, and each one has it's own scenes, colors and smells that set it apart from the others. We have terrain which is as diverse as anywhere in the US., and then we have that magnificent Lake Erie to our north.
Thanks again for this outstanding collage and your very informative video.
Ron

Hi Bob,
Excellent collage of shots with beautiful colours and lovely settings. All the images look so atractive and lively. You really have captured the ambience and mood perfectly. Thanks for sharing this fine collage.

This is a charming collage of pictures taken nearly 40 years ago, Bob, and how you retrieved them must be a story unto itself. I will go to your video later and react to your collage first.
All the pictures in the collage are of high quality. The fall colors are already there, but it is the well balanced contrasts in them that impress me the most. I particularly like the untimely snow on fall leaves in the first frame.
Your images from the past are dispensing a lot of joy to people like me, so thank you and keep them coming. . . .

Hi Bob,
As usual, a work with a lot of dedication and sensibility.
I like a lot the composition you made with the 5 images, talking only about the layout it is very good, and every single picture has the right size to be better appreciated.
The golden tones of the overall composition makes of this a very special work to see and enjoy.
Invaluable work and thanks for share it with us.
Warm regards,
JM

Namastay Bob,

Hi Bob

A gorgeous collage and a very nice presentation, my friend!
The presentation of the places there is lovely, the note is interesting and the video (finally got the time to watch it) is really helpful! I actually will think twice about some old family pics now :)

Back to this collage, the shots in its are all very nice and moody again. The show a splendid place is different stages and different angles, letting the viewer understand more about it.
Very nice work and contribution!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Bob! What can I say? Great job my friend, lots of great shots and a beautiful presentation ! You always put the bar a little higher! Well done my friend!

Mario

hello Bob

in my long absence of one month i missed alot of your
wonderful landscape shot, i decide to choose 2 of your image
to critique (to have smileys ton every one),

first i love very much this mid fall images photo-montage,
on the images i love the automnal colours and snow,
the one i love most is the 2 upper ones, and on the one
with the snow, i love the mix of the automnal colours with the snow,

TFS

How do I like this montage, Bob? Let me count the way :) First, I can see why that upper left photo is a prize -- with color and clarity and focus you've captured the clash of seasons...and how abrupt the shift can sometimes be. Second, you've shown those riparian scenes very well -- and I like the recurring use of river and color as a unifying element in these images. Third, an especially nice use of line in the lower image. Fourth, you've taken the time and effort to instruct us all.

Thanks, Bob!
Jim
