[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This may be very pretty metallic green jewel beetle, but it is extremely destructive to Ash trees. An Asian species which has infected thousands of trees and has led to their destruction.

Killing trees in three to five years after infestation this insect has cost Ohio alone millions of dollars in damage control.

The larval live under the bark where they feed until the adult beetle eventually emerges. I had to cut down an ash tree that my son brought home from school when he was in the first grade. I noticed last year that it seemed to be dying off at the top and found it to be infested with the ash borer larva.

I will post other images in a WS

Hi Ron,
Thanks for posting this. We are losing a lot of trees in southern Ohio to this species, but this the first image I have seen of one. The workshops are excellent as well. Excellent sharpness and composition. Workshop image #2 shows us the scarlet abdomen of this beautiful but damaging insect. Regards, Greg.
