[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Every fall I get to view these beautiful purple New England Asters in the fields behind our home. This year they seemed especially colorful and grew in abundance along the wood lines and abandoned roadways.

Despite it's name this flowering plant can be found throughout the eastern and mid-western United States. The word "aster" is actually Greek for "star".

Hello Ron – Very good picture of this Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. Excellent, view showing us all the details of the flowers and the capitulum. Colours from the petals and stamens properly caught.

Technical achievement

• Excellent focus on the capitulum in different views (from the top, from the side and from down)
• Perfect exposure with an appropriate choice of aperture/speed and iso for the flowers
• Perfect depth of field and sharpness
• Good contrast
• Excellent sharpness showing all the details of the capitulum
• Precise white balance and exact colour rendering
• Good post processing without any excess
• Good background blur giving us a proper perception of the flowers.

Impact

• Interesting picture showing the inflorescences and their organization along the stem of the plant; good capture.
• Efficient framing and composition with an appropriate disposition of the subject inside the frame.

Hi Ron,
A little bit busy pic, mostly at the bottom, but sharpness, colors and depth are fantastic, and the species itself isn't common on the pages of TrekNature (if ever occured at all). Although I might crop much more from the bottom, I'm embraced by the exceptional color gamut - love your white balance here! Nice shot overall.
